Five Reasons Why Your Child Should Work with a Health Coach
How many times a day do you tell your kids what to do? Do you wish your child could just do what they are supposed to do? I had this very same wish too. I did not know what to do with my daughters to get them to drink more water, eat their vegetables, go outside, or clean their rooms. I tried so many different ways for them to do what they were supposed to and of course, none of it worked.
I’ve learned from experience that kids know what they are supposed to do everyday. I know that they want to be proud of themselves and that they also want you to be proud of them. So, do they really need us to keep reminding them of all they have to do each day?
Kids do not want to feel like they are being constantly nagged. I know…I don’t like the word nagged either. It makes us all feel bad. But unfortunately, kids feel that way when, no matter what, we keep asking them to do the same thing over and over again. I always thought that there had to be a better way to get kids to be more accountable for themselves. I am now sure that we can provide the help they need in many different ways. One of the ways we can help them is through health coaching, and here's why:
Health coaching for kids may sound very new to you but it has actually been around for a while now. Health coaching works because it helps kids stay accountable for their own overall health. Imagine your child being in charge of their wellbeing and making healthy choices without you telling them over and over again what to do.
But how does health coaching do all of this? Well, health coaching concentrates on our overall holistic health and covers the whole person, including the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of their health. Health coaches keep in mind that kids learn in different ways compared to adults. Here are some ways health coaching can help your kids:
1. Kids want to be heard, they want you to listen to them. Health coaches make sure kids have their full attention. When kids know you’re listening to every word they are saying they are more likely to open up about how they feel. Think about it, everyone deserves to be heard and coaching can help them with that. It is very important for kids to feel like they have a special place for them to talk about what ever they want. Coaches are their guide on their side and will help them through the whole coaching process.
2. Everyone can benefit from goal setting, especially kids. Health coaches can help kids brainstorm achivable goals that they would like to work on. It’s very important for kids to know that they are making these decisions for themselves. With the help from a health coach, they can easily achieve this.
3. Staying accountable is one of the most important things in health coaching. Health Coaches can help keep kids accountable for the actions and choices they make on a daily basis. Coaches can help kids stay accountable by making sure they stay on the right path of their coaching journey. This helps kids make lasting changes on their goals and plan for a healthier future.
4. Health coaches can help kids stay motivated in order to achieve their healthy goals. Coaches can help kids develop a plan to make healthy changes in their lives. Kids can start making changes and feel great about seeing results in the way they feel. Coaches help kids stay motivated, which will actually cause the child to ENJOY all the work they are applying to their healthy journey.
5. Keeping a positive mindset is another way a health coach can help kids achieve their goals. Coaches believe 100% in their clients potential to attain good health and will always be there to help them find a way to achieve it. Kids can stay positive by the coaches reinforcement and belief in them for all the hard work they accomplish.
Now that you know a little bit more on how a health coach can help your kids, let's talk about how to find the right one for them.
Fortunately, there are many health coaches to choose from. Health Coaching is one of the most sought out fields at the moment, especially for kids. The U.S. is facing multiple challenges with overall health for kids, with problems such as obesity, depression, anxiety, behavioral, asthma and many other.
The majority of coaches specialize in certain niches and therefor is the reason to look for one who specifically specializes in working with kids. Not necessarily just one who works with kids but one who has the experience to work with them.
Remember that each kid is different and each kid works at a different pace. The results of working with a health coach are slow and steady ones. In order for anyone, including kids, to make a change, it takes time. Coaches can work with clients on different programs, some of which may be three months and others may be six months. Of course, there may be better results with the six month program. The longer you have with some one, the more time you have to implement what you are working on. Keep in mind that implementing a good habit can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days. It is best to give the kids enough time to work on their goals and set them up for success.
